What is a wooden serving plate
A wooden serving plate is a plate made of wood on which a meal or dessert is brought to the table; some people call it a wood plate or a wooden platter. Architab's wooden serving plates are made from solid pine and protected with two coats of reinforced varnish, so they need no oiling. The varnish guards the surface against water and scratches. We make every plate in our workshop in Nevşehir, Cappadocia (Türkiye), with CNC machining and handwork. A single breakfast plate and a two-tier stand are two of the models in the category. Café

Shape for what you serve
For a single breakfast, we suggest the oval plate. For mixed portions, the divided square keeps items apart. Surface and care
The plates are solid pine with two coats of reinforced varnish, and they need no oiling. Wipe with a damp cloth and dry. We do not recommend the dishwasher. A busy service needs no extra care step.

What is a wooden serving plate and what is it used for?
A wooden serving plate is a plate made of wood on which food is brought to the table; it is also called a wood plate or wooden platter. Architab makes its plates from solid pine. Oval and divided plates and a two-tier stand cover breakfast and desserts. There are also separate forms for snacks and bread, and a serving board for pide, a Turkish flatbread.
Are wooden plates food safe?
Architab plates are solid pine with a surface sealed by two coats of reinforced varnish, so food touches the varnished surface, not raw wood. The plates are sold sealed, not raw, which is why they need no oiling and wipe clean with a damp cloth. A sealed surface also holds less liquid and odour than raw wood.
How do I clean a wooden serving plate, is it dishwasher safe?
Wipe the plate with a damp cloth or a lightly soapy sponge, then dry it. The varnished surface needs no oiling. We do not recommend the dishwasher; wiping and drying is enough. You can read the details in our wooden plate care guide.
Are wooden plates better than porcelain or melamine plates?
If you want a natural look and no oiling, we recommend solid pine, which is one piece with a natural grain. Porcelain and melamine break when dropped and have a glossy, uniform surface, though they are easy to clean. Plywood and veneer plates show layer lines on the edge and can separate over time, while bamboo is light but can crack on impact and needs regular oiling.
How much do wooden serving plates cost, is buying direct from the maker cheaper?
The current price is on each product page. We make the plates in our Cappadocia workshop and sell them straight from the workshop, so there is no middleman margin in the price. Whether that is cheaper depends on what you compare it with; send your size and quantity on WhatsApp and we will talk model by model.
Can I have my logo or name engraved on the plate?
Yes, we engrave a name or logo on request. The logo is cut by CNC and stays under the varnish. Send your logo and the model you want to WhatsApp or info@hitab.net, and we can also make the size match the product your business already uses.
