What is a Turkish tile mirror?
A Turkish tile mirror is a solid wood wall panel measuring 87 x 77 x 4 cm (34.3 x 30.3 x 1.6 in), with a 34 x 44 cm (13.4 x 17.3 in) mirror glass set at its center. The frame is cut from solid pine, 1.6 in thick and 3.1 in wide (4 x 8 cm), and its corners are joined with mortise-and-tenon joints rather than nails or staples. Around the frame sit 22 wooden tiles, each 10 x 10 cm (3.9 x 3.9 in), prepared in the Architab workshop and finished with Ottoman patterns inspired by Iznik tile art; the tiles are wood, not ceramic. Mounting uses a hidden French-cleat style hanger: a slim wooden bar is screwed to the wall first, and the frame simply hangs on it, so no screw or picture hook shows. It has been handmade in our workshop in Nar, Nevşehir, in Cappadocia, Türkiye, since 2010.

What makes a Turkish tile mirror different?
How much wall space does 87 x 77 cm take up?
The frame's outer size is 87 x 77 cm (34.3 x 30.3 in) and 4 cm (1.6 in) thick; that is the space it occupies on your wall, while the 34 x 44 cm (13.4 x 17.3 in) glass sits as a decorative focal point at the center. Before hanging, tape a paper template of that size to your wall and step back to see how it reads in the room.
A closer look at the frame: 1.6 in thick, 3.1 in wide
The frame's cross-section is 4 x 8 cm (1.6 x 3.1 in), about 32 cm² of solid pine. Many marketplace mirrors use thin 2 x 3 cm (about 6 cm²) strips instead, roughly a fifth of the wood. A photo can't show that difference; you feel it the moment you hold the actual frame.
Mortise-and-tenon joints at every corner
Thin-strip frames are usually held together with staples, nails, or corner brackets, which tend to open into a small gap at the corner over time. Here the wood locks into wood. Checking a mirror's corner is often the fastest way to guess how long it will hold up.
Iznik-inspired patterns on wooden tiles
Twenty-two wooden tiles, 10 x 10 cm (3.9 x 3.9 in) each, are prepared in our workshop and then finished with Ottoman patterns inspired by Iznik tile art. Because the tiles are wood, the whole piece stays lighter and easier to mount.

How does the hidden French-cleat style hanger work?
A slim, sturdy wooden bar is screwed to the wall first, using two screws; the frame then hangs on that bar. No screw, nail, or picture hook shows on the wall, only the mirror itself. Leveling that small bar is far easier than holding up and leveling an 87 cm frame on your own, since the piece you're adjusting is small and light. Once hung, the frame can also slide 2-3 cm left or right along the bar, so if it isn't quite centered you don't need to pull the screws out and drill new holes.
